Flat PVC cladding is a versatile material with a high strength to weight ratio that can be easily worked with, using the standard tools used for plastics, wood and metal.
Cutting–using a cutting knife or a straight, finely serrated blade mounted on a hand-saw, band saw, disc (circular) saw or jig-saw. It is also suitable for drilling, milling, routing and guillotining.
Fastening-Panels can be fixed to supporting structures using screws, adhesive tapes and adhesive compound. Joints between panels and from panels to adjacent surfaces, floors, walls, ceilings are effected using purpose made extrusions.
Bonding-Can be bonded to itself and other materials using a variety of adhesives.
Drilling-Can be drilled using drills suitable for metal or other plastics.
Welding-Either by hot air welding or butt welding.
Flat PVC Cladding is highly resistant to many chemicals including dilute acids and alkalis, and to atmospheric pollutants.
Contact with solvents and wet wood preservatives must be avoided. It will not corrode or rot and is not prone to attack by pests.
Flat PVC cladding can be thermoformed into complex shapes without deterioration of surface aesthetic or physical properties.
Hot Line Bending-can be folded on a simple jig fitted with a forming tool having a radius of about two and a half times the sheet thickness.
Drape Forming-by softening a panel to an elastic state, draping over an appropriately shaped pattern and retaining it until cooled and rigid.
It is essential to maintain consistency of appearance when fitting flat PVC cladding. This is best achieved when:
Non abrasive cleaning solutions are suitable for cleaning flat PVC cladding material.
The service temperature range of flat PVC cladding is -20˚C to +60˚C. Greater care should be taken at lower termperatures as PVC is less resistant impact damage. It should not be installed near to heat sources, such as cookers or heating boilers as these could cause distortion and damage.
